The gray winter sky yawned over the Keep of Sohiem, frigid air hissing against unyielding stone and and isolated walls. Seated upon a hillside, beyond the Singing Wood and the iced over Lake of Lady Rhea, rested a house of high nobles and their surrounding villages under their protection. The frost and snow made the lands a pristine white, the roads still being picked and shoveled clear by working folk. The heir of the Keep paced his room, awaiting the messager bird from his beloved from a far, a lady from a far await land, arranged to be his bride since they were young. He had only knowledge of her recent choice to ride from her houses reach, something he had not be prepared for. He had asked her in the warm months where a days were long and brightest, to see the amber fields and the Verdasco of the Singing Wood, but she denied him, claiming mysterious tidings forbade her from leaving her lands. A curse upon her house that doomed her to only leave under very dubious circumstances. They could not approach via sea, for they could not cross running water, that to see her in the such summer days would be impossible as she was afflicted with deep slumbers in the hot months, rarely waking until the deepest nights. He had jested that such a curse sounded like a fable. It was that night, that her message came with a rolled scroll. A joke of her own, saying tat he would well to fall under her spell, so that he would be her caretaker...ofcourse in the scroll was a portrait of herself so that he would not forget her beauty.

He had no idea of the truth, that he was in the web of a vampire.
