Paris 1939
The philosophy school at the Sorbonne Paris in November, 1939. World War 2 is starting. Men have been deployed to the front. Men 18 and up are soldiering up, being drafted, enlisting, heading to the Western and Eastern fronts. Still university students are going to class, and being taught how to use gas masks during possible bombings of the city. And yet there is a vibrant intellectual and artistic community in Paris. Trying to cling to each other in cafes and parlour parties. Within these intellectual circles living in universities, cafes, art studios and the homes of these brilliant scholars and artists there is also a sexual revolution happening. The guise of heteronormativity is starting to break, not everyone is monogamous in the strict sense. However, even with eccentric parties and brilliant minds, queer sexualities and identities are underground. It is not publicly displayed, even in some of the wild parties. People know who is who. War looms but art and philosophy resist. Thoughts on free love are here to resist. Fashion and good Parisian food are still alive. War is already declared with Germany. It is a matter of when and not how. The air in Paris tastes different now in this late autumn. The words of Descartes and Simone Weil feel heavier now, as if war has made every page more urgent.
Inspired by the letters and journals of Simone de Beauvoir and Satre - this world is open to any characters who wish to be written here. What I am specifically looking for in my 1X1 is in the Job Board here:
Parisians and Philosophy 1939
I am also open to having my character play with any character inspired by this setting and having thread collaboration, group writings, etc. Please Parisian characters only - no Nazi/German PCs, although Parisians who may have been born in Germany are welcomed. And please follow the board rules.
Characters may make great stories of joining parts of the Resistance or just explain their slice of life, every day.
