The Bargain for Peace (inspired by the Expanse and a splash of Killjoys and BSG)
Earth and the Spaceborn have been in conflict for generations. Thousands killed over the course of the war, some years devastating, other years a simmering conflict with brief skirmishes. The Spaceborn, those born on moons, space stations and on generational ships, were once the lackeys of the Earthers. They mined, laboured, built and grew things while the Earthers thought of them as less, and then, as the war flared to life, as villains. The Spacers view Earthers as soft, weak, incapable of the labour and sacrifice that life in space demanded.
Finally the Spaceborn had the upper hand, defeat was inevitable, and Earth conceded. A peace was born but it was fragile. To make it stick, a terrible price was demanded by the Leadership of the Spacers, a way to ensure that Earth would never again turn against them. They wanted the Earther’s children, not just any children but those of the diplomats, politicians, leaders. Marriages of not just convenience but essentially hostages. For there is one thing Spacers value above all else - their children. They assumed Earthers were the same and that once their own children were scattered among the stars as spouses, having families of their own, that the peace would be secure.
My muses ~ the Spacers. Soldiers. Miners. Leaders. Hard as hell and bitter that their choices have been stripped of them by their leaders. However, they know how to follow orders, so now they are prepared to wed and take their spouses into space with them, a place these soft Earthers have likely never been.
