Kalin nods once, “Oh. . . Okay.”

 

[Firestarter]

"What's wrong?" Derek tilts his head and looks into Kalin's eyes.

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

He blinks and then shakes his head, “Nothing.” He smiles.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles and slowly walks backwards until he sits on the pool steps. He wraps both his arms tightly around Kalin's waist and pulls him closer.

Kalin loops his legs around Derek’s hips, relaxing into him.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek sighs happily and caresses one hand up and down Kalin's back. "So how come you never tried learning how to swim?"

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

“Because, falling in and almost drowning made me scared to go into the water by myself. Every time Javi would let go of me, I’d panic and flail.” He looks down into the water, swallowing.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek tilts his head and continues to caress Kalin's back. "Did you ever try using a floaty when you were a kid? It's probably the best way to practice."

Kalin huffs, “Yes. And I was still terrified.”

 

[Firestarter]

Derek chuckles and shakes his head. "It's okay, you can just hold me everytime we go into the pool." He leans his head down and whispers into Kalin's ear, "It's not like it's you don't wrap your legs around me normally, so it's no difference here."

Kalin flushed, blinking once and looking at Derek.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles and lowers his hands to Kalin's ass before slowly pushing off the steps, swimming towards the middle of the pool.

Kalin watches him, quiet. After a moment, he rests his head on Derek’s chest, closing his eyes.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek hums softly while slowly spinning and swimming in the water. "Let me know when you want to get out, okay?"

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

Kalin nods, quiet.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek continues to swim slowly while making sure to keep to the shallow end. He sighs happily and gently pets the back of Kalin's head.

Kalin hums softly, looking at Derek for a long moment.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles and gazes into Kalin's eyes. "My little minx...."

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

Kalin smiles at him, “My big jackass.”

 

[Firestarter]

Derek laughs and shakes his head. "Would you want it any other way?"

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

Kalin pauses for a moment, looking like he’s actually considering the question before shrugging, “Maybe.” He smirks.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek raises an eye brow and huffs. He slowly swims back to the stairs amd starts to push Kalin onto the stairs and away from his chest.

Kalin yelps and his grip on Derek tightens more, the death grip unrelenting as he presses closer.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles and holds Kalin close. "You'll be okay. I'm not going anywhere. Just sit on the stairs for me okay?"

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

Kalin stares at him for a long moment before hugging and nods, letting go.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek places one hand on either side of Kalin's hips and kisses his cheek. "The first step to learning to swim is just relaxing in the water. It's only about 3 feet deep here so don't worry about anything."

Kalin shakes his head, “I don’t wanna learn right now!”

 

[Firestarter]

"Don't worry. Im just having you sit here. We aren't going to do anything else." Derek gently cups Kalin's face with one hand and rubs his thumb over the other's cheekbone. "I just want you to relax okay?"

Kalin closes his eyes and takes a dep breath, slowly relaxing.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles and presses his forehead to Kalin's. "You'll always be safe with me, I promise."
