Helpful Tips!

Hello to those new to the forums! Not sure how everything works? I will post a bit of a guide to help out~

First and foremost is the text editor, the full version on a web browser will look like this:

editor1.PNG
Going from left to right you will find:
  1. Spoiler (eye with slash)
  2. Insert image (ctrl + p)
  3. Insert link (ctrl + k)
  4. Font size
  5. Font family (i.e. trebuchet vs. Georgia)
  6. Text color such as this
  7. Italicize (ctrl + i )
  8. Bold (ctrl + b)
  9. Underline (ctrl + u)
  10. Strikethrough (ctrl + s)
  11. Quote (**The editor will automatically put text into this box if you hit the 'reply' option at someone else's post!)
  12. Alignment (center, left, right, full)
  13. List (like this one being made. You can have bullets or numbers (ordered and unordered))
  14. Media (similar to insert image but can also add videos and whatnot)
  15. Insert table (*if BB code is toggled off you will not see it. Best to have the editor on to do so)
  16. Insert horizontal line like this:

  17. Smilies, such as :) and :(
  18. Remove formatting. (It will only remove the next text formatting. i.e. You used colored text previously but do not want more colored text, so you will choose the eraser option. Want to remove all formatting, I suggest highlighting said text and then using the eraser icon)
  19. Drafts. (your post will auto save and will be available for your use for the next 24 hours, so don't worry about losing any work if you accidentally close a tab!)
  20. Undo (ctrl + z)
  21. Redo (ctrl + shift + z)
  22. Toggle bb code ( </> ). If it is red it is inactive and the buttons are available for your use. If it is green then it is active and all the buttons will be greyed out, so you will have to manually change the format yourself.

Any further questions that you may have you can post it here in this thread and anyone will be happy to answer! I'm sure I covered the basics but this is all new to us staff users as well so we're learning with you :)

Notes/Edits:
  • On mobile and smaller windows, the editor will condense and you will see three stacked dots in it's place. Don't worry, everything that is mentioned above is the same still, just hidden out of view.
  • The preview button with the magnifying glass let's you see your post in all it's glory before you send it out to the forum. You won't be able to edit anything in the editor until it is not unselected.
  • You are able to resize images! If you find that your image takes up half of the page, click on it (while bb code is toggled off) and you'll see four corners pop up on the image, and from there you are able to move and adjust it to your liking. Honestly I had no idea this existed, it would have saved so much grief when I first started here XD
    • example 5.PNG My recommended size for pictures would just be 250 px X Autosize like this: example 6.PNG

Want a fancy name color to your username like me? Here's a small walkthrough.
  1. Go to your name that is listed in the header of the website, on the right side of the search bar. Click on it and go to your account details.
  2. Once there scroll down and you will see this:
    accountdetails.PNG
  3. From there you are able to change the color to your username! Now, originally I was going to have certain colors be 'locked' for those who chose them first, but that seriously bugged out the website, so feel free to use any color that comes to mind. Since this UI to the website is a fairly dark one, make sure to pick a color that will be fairly readable!

Some helpful links!
  • Text Colorizer Gives your font a gradient color. All you have to do is input the BB Code the color options give at the bottom of the page and you will have text like this!

Here is a recent guide I gave to one of our new users, anyone can follow this guide if you're unsure of how RP Forums work!

First you want to actually go to the forums page. Here you'll find everything you'll need to search. There's the Library section where you can post a search for an rp partner thread under Job Board --> On the Search, and you'll post there. They look something like this:

Topic / Subject Line --- Interested in MxM Topics, List below!
* example of list
*example of writing preferences
*example of what I expect in an rp partner
*etc.

These forums are naturally locked, only the author can reply to posts, so this way it gets other users to message each other in return.

A simple:
Subject Line: Hey! I'm interested in your (example rp idea)!
Text: just a few words detailing how you were interested in an rp idea that they had and if they wish to start one with you.

Remember: To follow all RP Mansion Terms and Rules. Most importantly, be respectful and understanding that not all users may reply right away!

If you don't wish to post an interest check thread, you can go straight to the Mansion's Rooms, aka the Genres of Roleplay. Located towards the bottom of the page underneath section Exploring the Mansion.
Here you can go under Rooms of the Mansion and find a genre you prefer.

If you have an idea of a thread in a certain genre you can post:

Fantasy --
Subject Line: Tethered to You (Open)
(then you post what you wish)

This can range from a plot opener, which can range from one - many paragraphs. The longer, more detailed ones the better!

One liners or subject lines in this thread detailing things such as:
Hi guys I'm open to an rp, message me if you're interested.

In theory is okay, but it's best to put that on the On the Search forum.

If you have posted a thread in this section already (or any genre section) that's great! But sometimes, threads just sit there, so you can always reach out to any user and ask if they're interested in an rp with you and mention that you already have an open thread. If they wish to take a look at it you can always link it in the pm.

Sometimes, specific users only rp in the private messages. That is okay, but be forewarned that your total post count will not increase and you will miss out on certain badges that can only be rewarded for rp'ing in the forums.

Other users can also rp in discord, which is also okay. But remember, to keep private, personal information outside of the Mansion. If you wish to share anything as such always do so responsibly and safely.

Lastly, any and all characters that you may portray in images / likenesses / posts need to either be over the age of 18 or aged up appropriately. This is crucial and is required to rp here at the Mansion.

Edit:

There is Thread Etiquette here at RP Mansion. Most, unless stated otherwise -- threads here are 1x1 threads. I may tweak the Room's description here and there, but they are usually 1 on 1 threads. The same follows for the AU Section. It is common courtesy to just read someone's else's threads with their chosen rp partner, not to reply or comment your own thoughts. If you're unsure on a thread, you can always pm that user just in case!
