Evelyn would admit she was surprised that he agreed, seeing as how he seemed to be very...task focused and not very sentimental. Perhaps it was just mostly the circumstances that they've been interacting in that gave her this impression. But either way, she was still surprised.
"From what I understand about my grandfather, he wasn't super fond of the council and their opinions. So, I would assume he has some sort of way to prevent the car from being traced altogether." She explains after he mentions the car and it being less traceable to him.
As for the car itself...it was parked at the house. But she could run over there, despite feeling a bit exhausted it was mostly mental exhaustion than physical.
"I'll go run and get the car, my suitcase is partially packed so I'll have to put more clothes into it to last me a bit longer wherever we're going." She explained, holding onto the keys tightly before going to leave out the front door.
But right as she reached the door, she felt something right as he cut off his words. It was...cold.
Really cold.
She turned to look at Kieran, his eyes were glowing more intensely than they were just moments ago. He felt that too. But he probably had more of an idea what it was that just happened.
Nodding at his next words, she bolted out the door and towards her grandfather's house to get the car.
It was a little chilly outside, but what she felt was way worse than slight chills. It didn't feel good at all. And she did not want to know what it was.
Now she didn't think she'd have time to fully pack her bag. Considering they were now having to rush because of whatever that was. Plus, the police that were coming wouldn't help at all in their current situation.
Just as she got to the car her phone rang. It was June.
"WHAT IS HAPPENING AT MY HOUSE? I just got a call saying that there was some sort of explosion and the house has frost covering the windows!" Her friend's panicked voice came through the other end when Evelyn answered it.
Putting June on speaker as she got into the car and started it, driving it back towards the house where Kieran was. "Some people are after me. I don't know why exactly but it has something to do with my family. I can't explain everything, I barely understand what's going on. All I know is that I'm being targeted and they will stop at nothing to get what they want from me. I need you to PLEASE stay elsewhere. For both of our safety. Please. I need no questions asked. Stay somewhere far." She pleaded, hoping that June would do so.
All Evelyn heard on the other end was a sigh, one she knew meant June would agree...eventually. "Lyn, I can't just show up to my aunt's house and tell her I absolutely have to stay there because my friend told me to. What am I supposed to tell her? What about my boss, my job Evelyn?"
"I know, trust me. But if these people don't know where you are, they can't use you to get to me. Just please do this for me."
Another sigh.
"Fine. But you owe me. And keep me updated on EVERYTHING when you can. Please be safe." Evelyn let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"I will. Thank you so much. I promise I will tell you everything once this is all over." That is, if it ever is. Honestly, she didn't know.
With that, she hung up the phone and pulled up to the house in the car. Putting the car into park in the driveway, she got out and opened the trunk, making sure the seats were down to fit the chest.
Then she rushed back inside, talking to Kieran but not looking at him to keep her focus on what her next task was, packing. "Trunk is open, I'm going to get some more clothes together while you load up the car. June will stay elsewhere until this blows over." She explains, grabbing her suitcase and bringing it back to the room.
As she entered, she saw Thistle laying on the bed - motionless.
No!
Letting the suitcase drop she rushed over to the cat, he looked as if he aged by several years. He should've had more time - they should've had more time - but he was gone. Panic started to wash over her.
What was she supposed to do now? He was supposed to help her until she found a familiar of her own! He wasn't supposed to die yet!
Her breathing became short and quick, her eyes never leaving the motionless cat.
Power started to surge from her as her emotions grew out of control, the room shook slightly and the lights flickered.
Then something snapped her out of it, that cold feeling came back.
But worse.
Taking a few deep breaths, she stepped away and went to pack.
Finishing her packing she brought her suitcase out and put it in front of the chest before closing the trunk.
But she didn't get back in the car yet, she ran back inside and grabbed Thistle. The least she could do was give him a proper burial.
Tears began to pool in her eyes as she held him outside the front door. "Keys are in the ignition. You know where we're going so you drive..." She muttered, staring at Thistle even as she got into the car and placed the cat onto her lap.
Husk stood there as he watched Reeves awaken, like he never even went into an eternal slumber. As if it was simply a nap. But...he didn't look the same.
His eyes were bloodshot and there were scars where he had suffered injuries during their attempt to get the girl. His skin was no longer a light tan but now a grayish tone.
"My son." Duncan muttered, trying to keep his tone neutral but Husk heard that slight quiver.
"Father...what did you do?" Reeves was confused, and rightfully so. "I thought...I thought I died. The girl, she killed me!" He grew angry and those eyes glowed with that familiar brown. But there was...something else. A reddish hue when his eyes glowed. Blood magic still lingered in his body, even after expelling all his power.
Husk took a step forward to correct the boy but immediately changed his mind.
This was dangerous. This wasn't going to end how Duncan wanted it to. If his now undead son thinks the girl killed him and was willing to kill her once, he'd do it again. "Sir...if I may-"
"No you may not. My son will lead this next attack on the girl. But I want her unharmed, you hear me boy?" He narrowed his eyes at his son before turning his attention to Husk, "You won't need anyone else other than him. Undead magic is extremely powerful, especially from a powerful bloodline. He has the power to subdue her easily, especially since she has no control. There's no way for her to stop you two now."
Reeves narrowed his eyes, "Neither will that wolf be an issue." He adds, turning his head to look at Husk.
There was no emotion in those eyes, only numbness. But his tone suggested anger.
"Yes sir..." Husk muttered, the older man had no place to argue. Nor would he survive if he did.
Perhaps he could warn the girl and the boy. There was no way Reeves would be able to control himself from killing either of them.
He had to warn them.
But how to find them?
