Noreen looked over at the Realtor.
"You can't blame me for not believing you," the attractive brunette said..."with California having the highest property rates in the country, you must admit your offer is really low. Does the roof leak? "
The realtor laughed. "No Miss Albertson...the roof doesn't leak, the pipes are fine and the foundation is sound. A considerable amount of money was invested in the house 2 years ago. For a hundred years old house I must confess that even I was surprised at the asking price....the previous owners are quite anxious to sell the property and apparently theyr'e well off so money doesn't seem to be a major issue...."
What the realtor held back was as unusual as the suspiciously low asking price. The house, even for a strange state as California, had over the years gathered a strange history. Maybe not sinister, but......strange. The realtor had no intention of blowing the sale, so this was probably not the best time to admit to hearing rumors and stories about the house being haunted. The last of the papers were signed, Noreen was handed the key and hands were shaken.
Noreen stopped the car a few thousand yards from the house and gazed at it. The 3 story house was built in 1904 for a wealthy lawyer and his family. The man had a doting wife and 3 daughters. For decades, life at the mansion was idyllic but the good times were not destined to last forever.
As the story went, the eldest daughter was being pushed into an arranged marriage with a successful businessman, something the girl had no intention of going through with. One afternoon, the father came home to find the daughter in bed with one of the female maids. In less time than it took to tell about it, the maid was fired and the daughter beaten.
The daughter continued the affair with the maid until both were caught once more. The maid and daughter were both beaten at the end of a leather belt until both died. The story goes that ever since then, the spirit of the eldest daughter still roamed the mansion, grieving over the loss of her lover.
Noreen knew nothing about the house's history and within a week of the sale, had moved into the mansion. The original furnishings had been included with the house, so Noreen needed very little of her own to move in, aside from new kitchen appliances.
She heard sounds almost from the first night.
A woman softly sobbing, the sounds of high heels clicking down corridors and numerous 'cold spots' throughout the house. Noreen naturally assumed it was the regular creaking and groaning connected to a house this old but she was soon mistaken.
She went upstairs to the attic one morning and found a jewelry box...inside was a beautiful gold and ruby encrusted choker-style necklace. Excited for her find, she quickly put it around her neck. A minute later, she heard soft sounds and suddenly the necklace tightened around her neck. Noreen clawed at it, yanking frantically while gasping and trying to breathe but it seemed to get tighter and tighter by the second.....eventually she passed out.
She woke up naked and bound to a chair.
