Kalin flinches and looks down at his plate. He takes a few bites, fidgeting slightly.

 

[Firestarter]

Demi whimpers and climbs out of her chair, moving to stand next to Kalin and hugging his waist.

Derek takes a deep breath to stay calm before getting up from his chair and hugging Kalin.

Kalin goes tense, squirming to pull away, "Stop-" He gets out, shuddering, "No."

 

[Firestarter]

Demi whines with tears in her eyes, turning and walking to her room.

Derek frowns and watches Demi walk away crying before turning to Kalin. "Look, I'll just...take the kids to the room and let you be for a moment. The last thing I want is Demi thinking you don't love her."

Kalin nods mutely, wrapping his arms around himself. He stands, and walks to the bedroom, making sure all the lights were off and closes the door.

 

[Firestarter]

Taking Kas in his good arm, Derek walks to the room with Demi and tries to calm her down. His boice and her cries are muffled by the door as he tries to reassure her that Kalin loves her, the poor girl crying her eyes out.

Kalin is an overstimulated bb just tryna calm down so he can go hug Demi-

Derek struggles to keep both children calm, his own emotions running high due to what's happening to Kalin.

After a while, Kalin wanders out, moving to Demi's room. He stays silent, but he sits on her bed and pulls her into a hug, kissing the top of her head.

 

[Firestarter]

Demi whines and tucks her arms close to herself, worrying that hugging Kalin will make him upset again.

Derek frowns and bounces Kas softly, trying to help him get tired and ready for bed.

Kas grips onto Derek, yawning and blinking at him.

Kalin sighs, pressing his face into Demi's hair.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek smiles a little at Kas and pats his back softly. "Time for bed, buddy."

Demi sniffles and tries to make herself smaller. "I'm sorry, Papa....I won't be bad again."

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

"It. . . It. . ." Kalin looks at Derek, as of Derek could read his mind and tell Demi what he was thinking and feeling.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek frowns and lets out a soft breath. "Demi, princess, you didn't do anything wrong. Papa just needed a moment to get his thoughts in order."

Demi shakes her head and sniffles, truly convinced that she caused the problem.

Kalin holds her tighter, looking down at her.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek sighs and carefully sets Kas down in his crib before standing next to Kalin and petting his head.

Kalin looks up at Derek, biting his lower lip

 

[Firestarter]

Derek nods and lets out a slow breath. "Demi, sweetie, how about we get you ready for bed. It's already late, and Papa will take you out for ice cream tomorrow after school."

Demi sniffles and nods before slowly pulling away from Kalin.

Kalin smiles and kisses her forehead, whispering, "I. . . I love. . . You." He stands and looks at Derek.

 

[Firestarter]

Demi wipes his tears away and takes a small breath. "I love you too Papa..."

Derek gives a small smiles before taking Demi's hand to help her get ready for bed.

Kalin watches, quiet.

 

[Firestarter]

After helping Demi brush her teeth, get changed into her pajamas, and tucked into bed, Derek kisses her on the forehead and walks back over to Kalin. "Good night, Demi. Papa and Daddy love you."

Demi curls up under her covers and yawns. "I love you guys too."

Kalin goes to bed and flops down, blowing out a breath

 

[Firestarter]

Derek follows and sits on the edge of the bed. "You feeling any better?"

 

[RhysTheFirebird]

He shakes his head, sighing and leans against Derek.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek wraps his good arm around Kalin's shoulder and sighs. "What would help you feel better baby?"

Kalin glances at him, shrugging.

 

[Firestarter]

Derek sighs and looks down, feeling a little overwhelmed himself.

Kalin shifts, sitting on his lap. He rests his head onto Derek's chest, relishing his warmth.

Derek takes a deep breath and holds Kalin close, resting his chin on the other's head.
