Two years may not be a long time to heal, but it worked well enough for Ashley to graduate and get her first job at a chemistry lab: Biolife. Its located in a city close to the capital, and her dad doesn’t have to worry about her being too far away from his work…which is a white house. He has a lot on his plate already, and she doesn;t want him to worry about her…actually, he already is as there is a new development. There is a new outbreak, and Biolife has been commissioned to create a serum for it by sending over some bio material. This is her first big project, and it is harder than she thought. She groans as she is sitting alone on a bench during a short break. She is slightly annoyed as the secret service is here to check in on things, agents from the White House who came to make sure that everything is going smoothly.

Leon Kennedy was again reassigned to protect the president’s daughter. It had been two years since the incidents of that village with the crazy cult like leader, and Leon thought he would have honestly caught a break. But he was wrong, as per usual. When word got out about another outbreak, he gave a hard sigh, figuring that things probably wouldn’t get better for now. Either way, as he walked up some stairs to the lab where Ashley was working, he thought about a few things.

Firstly, if there was another outbreak, he would have to stick to Ashley like glue again and protect her from any instances happening. Secondly, he had to make sure he would have enough ammo to keep going, in case they would need to flee for any reason. But for some odd instance, ammo would just randomly be placed in the most peculiar areas, he had noted. Why someone would be so careless with their ammo he had no idea. But of course he was thankful for the ones he found.

But putting those thoughts aside from now, Leon walked into the lab and scanned the room for any potential signs of danger, before his gaze fell on the form of Ashley, his eyes cold and hard to read as always.

As he approached, he tried to soften up his demeanor as much as possible, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to do so. “Hey kiddo,” he greeted her, but then frowned slightly. No, she wasn’t the same as two years ago. She had definitely grown up, even though she already was in her twenties when he first met her, he had at least 7 years on her. He was now pushing thirty, but he didn’t want to be reminded of that in the slightest.

Ashley turns her head, as she couldn’t believe who is here. “Leon?” She slowly stood up. “Oh my God, are you really here?” She did not expect for them to be meeting up like this again. Its been two years, but she is surprised that he would be here although it would kind of make sense. “It’s…Its been a long time. How have you been?” She walks up to him…but she couldn’t help herself and gives him an embrace. “Leon…I-” She lets go of him. “Sorry…I just…I wanted to thank you for saving my dad’s life. He probably would’ve been killed if it weren’t for you.” Her heart is beating really fast as she tries to calm down a bit, trying not to be awkward. “What…what are you doing here?” She asks.

Leon was about to reply to her before he gave a startled grunt from her sudden hug. He faltered back ever so slightly before steadying his footing and slowly wrapping an arm around her frame. He wasn’t used to this in the slightest, but he figured he’d make an exception for Ashley. When she let go of him he looked down at her face, seeing her eyes nervously flicker as she was trying to calm herself down. From her words on saving her father he leaned his head to the side slightly, “Of course, your father is a good man— I’d save him again any time,” he tells her now, before giving her a slight grimace when she asked what he was doing there.

“Well…your father sent me here,” he trailed off, giving a small sigh, “To protect you,” but now it was different than before. They weren’t being chased or hunted by crazy cult members. Nor did they both have the virus in their bodies any more. He couldn’t remember exactly what had happened to him during that time of being infected, all he knew was that he did not like how his body felt afterwards.

“Huh? He did?” She didn’t expect this at all. “Dad sent you all the way to Biolife for protection detail?” She frowns at this, she will have a talk about this with him later. “Great…well, besides that, it is good to see you. Besides watching over me, are you also looking over the current project?” She asked him, as she has a feeling that this has more to do than protecting her. Since it is technically a commission from the government, she has no problem with agents around the facility, but it is a bit annoying having them looking over her shoulders. With Leon here though, it’s a lot more bearable.

Ashley would see him look away from her for a brief moment when she asked if he was here to look over the project. He then looked back to her and nodded curtly, “That’s right,” she would hear him confirm. “Mostly it’s to make sure you stay out of trouble,” he says with a slight smirk. “So..what has ‘scientist’ Ashely been up to?” He asked, looking towards her equipment she had been working on. He never fully understood what these scientists would be up to but he was sure enough she would tell him in full detail.

“Huh? Do you think i’ll just get myself into trouble?” Ashley pouts as she crosses her arms. “Okay, fine, I guess I'll just show you.” She turns and walks back into the corridors. “Well, my first task is to assist with Dr. Shaw’s research into making a possible cure. We have a lot of data and even have a sample of the virus here. So far, I think we are getting to progress a lot faster than anticipated.” She stands in front of a door and types in a four digit code before it peeps, the door sliding open for them to open the lab. “Don’t worry, in case you are wondering, the virus in under heavy containment, only Dr.Shaw is allowed access.”

Raising his eyebrow at her pouting, he wondered if she was being serious, since he had only been joking about her getting into trouble— even though trouble seemed to follow her like a dark thick cloud, especially when it came to this virus. Either way though, he followed her and watched as she put the four digit code, mentally putting that number in the back of his mind. When the keypad beeped, he walked through the door with Ashley before surveying the surrounding area. “Sounds like this Shaw guy runs a tight ship,” he spoke, sounding an approval from Leon was unusual, but not uncommon.

When they came to a stop at a glass viewing case, he dipped his head down to look at exactly what was there. “So what’s in this thing?” He asked, looking at the tube contained behind a heavy layer of glass.

“That right there is a sample of Daylight. What we are dealing with is a variant of the T-Virus, so we have to use a sample of it’s cure.” Ashley moves over to another glass display of a single vial. “Here it is, this is a working prototype after many trial and errors. I would say that it’s very successful.” She said as she sits a computer terminal. “Take a look at this, we have managed to make this quickly….but only one prototype since we have to make sure if it’s viable for mass production. However, Dr Shaw says that with things as they are now, we would be able to counter this virus if it ever shows up again.”

Leon gave a silent sigh of relief when Ashley mentioned they would be able to counter the virus if it ever showed up again— but that relief didn’t last long. He knew viruses always mutated and he cocked his head as he looked at the screen she was showing him. “And if it mutates?” He asked, his eyes looking towards her face, wondering if that had any research on possible mutations. Supposedly this virus got out of hand like the last one, god only knew what he would do to protect the woman in front of him— even if he didn’t like to outrightly admit it.

“Mutates? That would be bad, wouldn’t it?” Ashley rubs her chin. “I…uh…hope that we would be able to adapt to the changes if that ever happens. For now, we can combat it as it is. I hope so…” She mutters the last part. “Do you have any questions? I just started working here, but i’ll do my best to answer.”

At her observation and then her question he shook his head. “Not really,” he leaned back slightly and gave another sweep of the science lab. His gaze returned back to her face and then, well, he actually did have a question for her. “Well, actually I do have a question for you,” he tells her, his eyes focusing in on her mouth for just a moment before reaching her eyes again. “How have you been doing? Especially after the virus you endured..” he began, knowing those effects, even once cured could take awhile to leave her body altogether. He had been worried about her ever since, even if it had been in the back of his mind.
