In a world where demons infiltrate society by mimicking humans, Kayla Sylver is the Order’s most efficient weapon. Her blood grants her unnatural strength, reflexes, and insight into demonic auras—but also isolates her. The more she uses her gifts, the closer she feels to becoming what she hunts. While tracking a string of disappearances in a quiet coastal city, Kayla encounters a man who seems too gentle for this bleak world—but something about him feels familiar to Kayla’s darker instincts. When a demon attack exposes Kayla’s markings in front of the man, she flees—only for him to reveal that he, too, is not what he seems. He’s a demon—one who fled the underworld centuries ago to live a quiet, human life. Yet unlike the others, he shows no hunger for power or blood. Torn between duty and instinct, Kayla must decide if what she’s been taught all her life is truth—or just fear dressed as righteousness. As she begins to question the Order’s motives and the rigid definitions of good and evil, Kayla finds herself falling for the very being she’s supposed to destroy. But love comes at a cost. And when the Order discovers his identity, Kayla is forced to choose: Will she become the weapon they forged her to be? Or will she become something new—something forged from both bloodlines?

The idea of traveling the world always thrilled Kaela; her job allowed her to perform in a wide range of venues for celebrities and artists. Not this time around, no dancing on the horizon, but instead a mission from her mentor to check out the unknown disappearances in a coastal town. She arrived early in the morning, the sun was rising for the day, offering the beautiful opportunity to see the shimmering sea greet the sun. On the third level of the airport, Kaela gave herself a few moments to enjoy the view before heading downstairs to grab a cab.

"Over here!" Calling out as a white and green cab drove up to the curb, "Oh, thank you!" putting her bags into the trunk. Sliding into the backseat, she hands over a piece of paper with the Airbnb that the Order set her up in.

"Business or pleasure?" The driver questions as they pull out onto the road after putting the address in the GPS. "Business," Kaela answered, looking out the window with a smile. This place was beautiful. It didn't take Kaela long to notice the driver glaring at her through the rearview mirrors. She raised a brow, glancing over the drivers' arms and legs from where she could see from her position. A subtle flash of patterns coursed up the driver's neck, revealing she was a demon. Kaela waited until they came to a stop sign to swing out her sword, which only came about when Kaela felt threatened.

"Be gone, demon!" She shouts, missing the demon's neck by a hair as they dashed out of the car. Kaela leaps out the window, landing on top of the car before launching after the demon. "You must be the reason people are disappearing!" Kaela yells as she follows the demon through the town until cornering them in an alley. "Got ya!" rushing forward to pin the demon against the walls. "Tell me, are there more of you hiding around her?" she questions. The demon refused, even thrusting itself into Kaela's sword to return to the demon realm.

"Dammit!" anger filling her chest, her patterns scattering along her arms for a moment, a blip of time as she settled herself back. Her sword disappears as she leans against the walls guessing that there were more since the demon did not wish to talk

Gavyn again walked through the same door he had a million times it seemed. For being so old, something as simple as a door bell ringing the moment he pushed open a door never seemed to get boring to him. He had been around the area for quite some time- and had quietly ‘dissolved’ into human life here. He never was one for confrontation, and he had only ended up the way he did because he had been so desperate al those years ago. He was starving, poor, and homeless. He had wanted to live a better life.

Gwi-ma, the demon king had enticed him, - promising him only riches a poor man could dream of- and from there on, he had been his obedient servant. Up until 20 years ago…

Gavyn never liked doing anything for Gwi-ma, collecting souls for the king was never something he had dreamt of being a part of. It disgusted him that he had been so weak, that he had sold his only thing he had left, a soul. And although practically soulless, Gavyn wasn’t a monster.

But his quiet life would soon come to an end.

He heard commotion down the alley way, and he could instantly hear the sounds that seemed to be belonging to a huntress.

Shit

Although he hadn’t been stealing souls in forever— he still worried.

Would the huntress spot him?

Would he be in trouble? He had finally gotten Gwi-ma’s influence to quieten down, and he knew he didn’t want to go back. But the blade that belonged to that huntress could only mean one thing— sending him back to the demon realm.

And he didn’t want to meet her. If he did come across her, he would have to appear unassuming, and he hoped that his plan wouldn’t back fire.

Hoped.

Background: originally a commoner in a high ranking society. His luck had turned sour once his family had succumbed to a plague and he was left on the streets. His influence from Gwi-ma the demon king didn’t come later until he knew he had nothing left to lose. But nothing in this world is free, and he had to pay for it with his soul, and become a demon after he eventually died.
Family: deceased
Likes/dislikes: suppressed his memories and doesn’t really have much interest in a lot of things anymore. He runs a small antique shop but that’s about it.

Kayla was able to quiet herself down after a few minutes, well, no way would she risk a cab after that interaction. Sometimes, demons did arrive in groups since humans are known for remaining near friends and family. She clicks her tongue, letting out a sigh, pushing off the wall to exit the alleyway and hopefully find her way to this Airbnb. Her trust in this area was quite low, which was no reflection on the people here; it was a beautiful town, and its low crime rate was probably why demons went under the radar for so long. But someone slipped up, letting a demon through that was too hungry for souls.

Now on the sidewalk, Kayla takes a look around; she is completely lost in the middle of downtown. Turning left, she took out her phone, typing in the address to find it was about a fifteen-minute walk from where she was. After flying halfway around the world to meet a demon, the moment she stepped out of the airport left she was exhausted. She took a seat at a bench for a quick rest before heading to her new home for the time being. It was a few seconds until her senses began to pick up on hints of darkness, and she glanced around on alert. Only for a dog to jump out of a bush, startling her to leap off her bench and stumble to the side.
