The city wasn't kind to those that didn't fit in, vampires had covens, werewolves had packs and hybrids who didn't pick a side had nothing. Kira was one of those hybrids that chose to pick neither side and so everyone looked at her as if she was a freak of nature. In many regards she was, she was a thing that shouldn't have existed but there was something she could do about the fact that her parents had come from two different worlds and she had been made. Because of how unliked she was because of what she was getting a normal job in the city was basically impossible, most business' were either run by creatures or had creatures working for them which made work environments rather uncomfortable for Kira because she knew how others felt about her kind.
So she had turned to underground fighting, sure, it was dangerous but it paid well. All those who didn't fit in with others around them attended the fights either to participate or just bet on them, unsavory humans also came to the fights. These were members of local gangs and some mafia members came to do their business dealings in the abandoned warehouses or back alleys the fights took place in, everyone got along there because even though they all came from different lives and different places the locations the fights took place in were neutral ground. She had only turned to underground fighting after she had hit rock bottom at nineteen and ended up living on the streets because she couldn't get a job, now she was one of longest standing fighters, one who hadn't yet been caught by police at any of the illegal fights, and had been participating in fights for the last five years.
It was during one of her fights in an abandoned warehouse that Kira took notice of a man nearby, he seemed almost too well dressed to be with one of the local gangs or just a drifter passing through. Hell, he was dressed as if he had just come from a corporate job and wasn't here to fight. Frowning at him slightly she kept her eyes locked on his faced for a moment before she turned back to look at the two werewolves currently in the center of the ring made by those who were there to bet or partake in a fight, even though she was no longer looking at the man, Kira could not shake the feeling that he was staring at her and it sent a shiver down her spine slightly. When you live on the streets you learn quickly to pay attention to the feeling of being watched and so Kira did, so far that feeling had kept her alive and it was going to keep her alive for so much longer. Watching as the two males in the middle fought Kira crossed her arms over her stomach, the fight seemed to be over in the blink of an eye as the second male fell to the ground unconscious.
He was dragged away and the unofficial referee of the fight stepped in, announced the winner of the fight before he pushed the winner back into the circle of bodies, Kira knew it was her turn and it one more glance over her shoulder back towards the mystery man she narrowed her eyes slightly before she stepped into the middle with the referee. Everyone who came to the fights knew that Kira was one of the undefeated champions, the fights allowed her to make enough money to stay in a dodgy motel now and again and she was hoping that she was going to make enough money to do that again tonight as she just wanted a warm bed and a very hot shower to enjoy for a couple of nights. Looking at her opponent that walked into the middle Kira sized him up, it wasn't uncommon for her to fight against men but it also wasn't a common occurrence either, rolling her shoulders it wasn't long before the fight was on.
As the fight went on the two of them exchanged blows, it became almost a dance between who could get the hit in first, Kira had taught herself quickly to ignore the pain that happened when she fought as she didn't want to show weakness or show how much pain she was in. Copping a punch directly to her mouth caught Kira off guard slightly that she staggered backwards, pausing briefly she licked at her bottom lip and winced slightly tasing blood and feeling the cut that was there. That split second of distraction was enough of an opening for the man in front of her to start laying into her, Kira gritted her teeth and took the beating for a few moments before she jabbed him in the stomach catching him off guard. Now it was her turn, Kira laid into the man without a second thought letting her years of anger and frustration out on him without pausing. Her punches didn't stop until the man was on the ground covering his head with his hands, Kira felt almost numb as the referee grabbed her arm and announced her the winner, shaking him off of her Kira moved from the middle of the circle and began to move through the bodies.
As she moved through the people the pain started to settle in and Kira wrapped one of her arms around her stomach with a grimace, seeing the man who had caught her eye before the fight staring at her Kira walked towards him. "See something you like?" She questioned with a raised brow as she raised her free hand and wiped some of the blood that had dripped down her face from a wound by her right eye, even though Kira was banking on using her winnings to get a warm bed she wasn't against using men to get a safe place to sleep for a few nights. Sure, most expected sexual favors from her in payment for giving her a place to stay but some were kind enough to give her a bed to sleep in for nothing in return, those men were few and far between and even though some had told her she could stay with her permanently Kira chose to always leave as she tended to always end up in a pack or a coven that judged her for being a hybrid.
Kira knew not to over stay her welcome in those places, you learnt quickly where you belonged, and Kira didn't belong.
