Soren Nightvale was just shy of his 27th birthday, and knew it was nothing to be celebratory about. As a knight of the royal guard, his duty was first and foremost to the king and queen and to their only daughter, the princess. He always had to be on guard, to make sure that no harm would come to the royal family.

He had became a knight the moment he had turned 21, leaving behind a life of being a full time vampire hunter. Mostly. He usually still was on occasion killing the stray vampire here and there, knowing that there was an uprising in that species. Ever since the ‘infection’ had started to get out of control, he had to be more alert than usual. He couldn’t allow any vampires to infiltrate the castle.

But don’t even get him started on werewolves. He had heard of the beasts, but never fully saw one as their species hadn’t really been much trouble, unlike their bloodsucker counterparts.

Either way, his duty was to protect the royal family, which included its princess. He’d admit although he usually was reserved around the princess, sometimes he’d find himself wishing he was able to have a more open relationship with her. But he knew that could never be. For the princess was unfortunately already betrothed to some random prince—who Soren had never seen before— and knew he had relatively no chance.

Likes/Dislikes: prefers the colder weather, cloudy rainy days. Has a favorite horse and a favorite spot out in the forest nearby the castle. Oh, and definitely likes the princess. He dislikes untrustworthy people, and hates vampires. He thinks all vampires are awful creatures that shouldn’t even be allowed to live.

Moira Hale hated being royal, there was no freedom in the palace, no place that she couldn't be found. She liked to seek out peace where she could but that was so hard to come by when servants and guards were always looking for her. It was as if everyone was scared that if they looked away for too long that she would vanish into thin air, and they were right about that. She had a tendency to sneak off into the forest to just be herself. There was no fan fare and no titles in the forest, it was just her, the trees, the creek and the animals.

But, it wasn't all bad, there was one shining light that Moira adored. And that was a guard by the name of Soren. When he had first come to be a knight at the palace she had been eighteen, the first time she had laid eyes on him she couldn't help but admire the man. Moira knew her parents would never allow her to marry a guard, and her marriage to a prince she didn't even know had been in the works from the moment she had been born, but that didn't matter to Moira.

Any chance she got to look at Soren she did, the two of them shared stolen glances and secret smiles from time to time, and Moira loved it. Even though she knew he would never be hers and that she would never be his she was happy with what attention from him that she could get.

She had learnt quickly that he also liked to go to the forest near the castle, Moira had only found out when she had been there herself and had spotted him. He didn't seem as if he was looking for her and so Moira had stayed quiet perched up in the higher branches of the tree she had been lounging in, that was the day she had decided that she would sneak into the forest more often just so that she could see Soren, even if he didn't see her.

That was how she now found herself once again in the forest, her parents were busy with dignitaries from another Kingdom and Moira had excused herself saying she needed to lay down, but instead she had snuck out of the palace and made her way to the forest. Going to her favorite tree she liked to climb Moira scaled it easily, her hands and feet moved without thought of where they should go as she had done this so many times. Settling herself comfortably on the branch that she had deemed as hers Moira leaned back against the trunk of the tree, her right leg dangled lazily over the branch as she swung it slightly as she waited.

Moira hoped that Soren would make his way into the forest as he often did.

It wasn't long before she heard the tell tale sounds of someone walking through the leaves and sticks on the ground, moving a little on her branch Moira peered down at the ground below, she was up high enough that if she fell she would have broken something if she tumbled from her branch but so far that hadn't happened. Catching a glimpse of who she could only guess was Soren, her guard, Moira adjusted herself a little more and as she did her both of her white gloves she normally wore, but had taken off when she had climbed the tree, tumbled to the ground making her inwardly groan as she rolled her eyes to herself making a mental note for next time to put the damned things in her pocket.

So much for not being found in the forest, even if that someone finding her was the man she wanted.

Soren was walking over to his usual spot, and as he began to lounge there, he noticed something fall behind him. His hearing was impeccable for a human, and no matter how good at hiding you became, Soren would always find you.

He turned his head and saw the gloves, frowning slightly as he realized they were the princess’s. He got up and came over to inspect, kneeling down and picking them up. He moved his thumb over them gently and was confused for a moment of why these would be here.

But then he remembered that the princess also liked to steal away into the forest. He usually never followed her, even though it had been his duty to protect her from any harm. Soren knew that he would be close by regardless, and come to her aid whenever.

So to that thought, he eventually glanced up and his eyes met the beautiful face of Moira, and he gave her a warm smile. “I didn’t know Princesses grew on trees,” he said now, teasing her about the fact that she was there, but he had no intention of forcing her to get down. He knew she wanted freedom to do anything she could without someone to remind her she couldn’t do what she wanted.

Moira crinkled her nose at Soren a little when he spoke about not knowing Princesses grew on trees, "They don't" she mumbled to herself as she started to climb down from her perch, "Princesses grow in stuffy old castles" Moira continued to murmur to herself not caring if Soren heard her bitter mutterings.

Once her feet were flat on the ground she huffed a little as she held her right hand out towards him waiting for him to give her her gloves back, "I didn't know Knights grew under trees" Moira teased back at him with a small smirk. She had never been around Soren for a long time without her ladies in waiting getting in the way, but there was something rather nice knowing that she could stay out in the forest as long as she wished right now since everyone thought she was in her room sleeping and not out sneaking around the forest.

As soon as her gloves were back in her hand Moira tucked them way into her pocket before she flicked her hair over her shoulders as she turned her attention back to the man in front of her, her beautiful green eyes studied his face. Smirking sweetly Moira clasped her hands together behind her back and swayed a little as she took a few steps towards him until there was only a foot of space between them, "Tell me good sir, what would it cost for you to pretend you didn't see me?" she asked sweetly. She wasn't sure what it would cost for her to buy Soren's silence but she was sure whatever it would cost she could afford it, after all being a Princess meant she could get him anything he wanted.

Soren looked at her as she climbed down from the tree, he could’ve sworn she had been a spider monkey in her past life, given how agile the princess was when it came to climbing trees. Even as she muttered about being grown in ‘stuffy castles’ he couldn’t help but give a small laugh at her complaint. She wasn’t wrong about that, but he found her presence in the castle refreshing to say the least, considering how arrogant her parents seemed to act most days.

When she outstretched her hands to receive her gloves back, he dropped them in her hand and moved his own hand back to his side. Soren couldn’t get over how small and dainty her hands seemed compared to his, and he knew one of his hands could easily wrap around both of hers. His hands were rough and calloused, and hers were soft and delicate. He’d give anything to feel her hands against his, even if he really shouldn’t admit it.

Soren watched as she moved her hands to the front of her and then Moira’s beautiful eyes landed on his face. He couldn’t help but be captivated by her gaze, he had found them to remind him of emeralds- and they made his pale in comparison, being a light hazel. He stepped back slightly as she moved closer, his eyes never leaving her face. When she asked what it would cost her, he gave her a small smirk.

“I’m not sure Mira,” he mispronounced her name in a playful tone, only because he knew he could in this situation, given that they were alone. He wondered what she would think of that. Soren then took his time before he told her what he wanted.

“How about…a kiss on the cheek from my fair princess?” He said next, hoping to make her blush. Soren on one hand was ecstatic that they were both alone at this moment, with no further prying eyes. He was hoping what he had asked of her wasn’t too much of a request, and he hoped he wasn’t overstepping any boundaries.

Moira raised a brow seeing him step back slightly from her only making her step towards him again with a small smirk, there was something so deliciously fun about this moment to her of a knight stepping back that she wanted to see how far he would go to keep distance between the two of them. She knew that the knights were taught to not touch the royals unless they absolutely had to to keep them safe, Moira was used to people acting as if touching her would get them killed and she wanted to tell them that they could touch her but she doubted anyone would listen to her.

When Soren mispronounced her name she furrowed her brown at him before she smirked a little, "Really? Mira?" Moira asked with a laugh as she shook her head at him, there was something very endearing about his playful tone. It didn't seem as if he was trying to keep to the rule book out here when it came to interacting with her and Moira appreciated it very much.

"It's Moira" she corrected in her own playful tone showing him that she took no offence at all to this playfulness, she knew if anyone could see them in that moment they would probably think that the two of them were flirting with each other. And even though Moira knew it was wrong, she didn't care, she planned to flirt with the man in front of her as often as she could until the dreaded day of meeting her betrothed.

When Soren suggested that his reward could be a kiss on the cheek Moira studied his face for a moment, her eyes quickly glanced from his eyes down to his lips and back again, if he wanted a kiss she was going to give him an actual kiss.

Shrugging her shoulders almost nonchalantly she stepped closer to him to close the gap between them before either of them could change their mind, "I think I can afford a kiss" Moira said playfully as a soft blush started to burn over her cheeks. Was she really going to do this? Kiss a man that was not her betrothed? Of course she was. Leaning into him she acted like she was going to place the kiss on his cheek like he had asked but at the last moment Moira moved slightly and placed the kiss against his lips, she held the kiss between them for a moment before she pulled back and studied his face before she grinned a little at him.

"I hope that sufficed" she spoke softly as her grin dropped to a soft smile, she had never kissed a man before but it felt nice that Soren, a knight, her knight was the one she kissed first.

Soren enjoyed the way she was reacting to his teasing. He thought of it to be very cute and he gave a mental note to tease her more, especially indirectly so that her parents wouldn’t have his head for ‘treating their daughter in this way’. If he did it indirectly it was more than likely Moira would pick up on it before anyone else would.

Noting the way she picked up on his mispronunciation of her name, he gave a sly smirk, wanting to oh so desperately say her name wrong again and again, for if she always corrected him for it, that meant she would always have a reason to talk to him. He knew he shouldn’t mispronounce the princess’s name, but he couldn’t help it. He wanted an excuse to talk to her whenever and doing this… well, he knew he couldn’t do this in front of everyone else, for he knew he had to strictly keep it formal between him and her, but like this— with no further prying eyes, he knew he would be able to get away with it.

And as she approached and went to give him a kiss on the cheek, Soren felt his heart begin to thud faster than expected. He didn’t exactly figure she’d follow through, but she had seemed a little too eager to get into it, for some reason. Either way, Soren wasn’t complaining. He knew once she was married off, he wouldn’t ever see her again, for he overheard rumors that her betrothed was very controlling.

Obviously that worried Soren, but that was something he could worry about later.

For now, he was waiting for her to kiss his cheek, and when she ‘accidentally’ moved her head last minute to kiss him on the mouth, he was surprised and caught off guard. Then she told him if that sufficed…did it suffice?

Hell no.

Soren didn’t respond to her right away, except he seemed frozen for a moment. He then moved to grasp the princess around her waist, pulling her close to him suddenly. His face moments away from hers as his eyes searched hers, “It did not,” he tells her honestly.

What the hell was he doing?! Soren knew he shouldn’t be doing this with her, but Moira looked so beautiful and he was alone with her. All he wanted to do was steal a few more kisses from her, even if it meant he’d get in trouble for it later.

“I want a few more,” he murmured out before moving his head and properly kissing her. His lips connected with hers and he couldn’t get over the fact that he was kissing her, the beautiful, seemingly out of his grasp princess.
Now in his embrace, Soren really didn’t want to let her go. His kissed her with such a tenderness yet was being firm and direct with his kiss all at the same time. Soren enjoyed how her soft lips felt against his, and as the moments passed couldn’t help but start to crave more.

Moira found herself very much enjoying the company of Soren, she wanted this moment between them to last forever, she wished to beg whatever God she could to make this moment stretch on. She knew that this moment would replay in her mind for years and Moira had no doubt that it would become her favorite memory. It would be their secret and only theirs, not even her betrothed would know of it.

Seeing how he reacted to her kissing him Moira couldn't help but give a soft laugh at how stone still he had become, it was as if she had shocked his system so badly that neither his brain nor body knew what to do. But as soon as he grasped her around the waist and pulled her close to him Moira gasped lightly as she placed her hands on his shoulders to brace herself, she knew she should have pushed away from him, but she didn't.

Searching his eyes with her own when he told her that it didn't suffice she parted her lips a little taken a back by his words, but as soon as he murmured that he wanted a few more Moira couldn't help but grin a little, sure she knew this was wrong but no one else needed to know.

In the forest she wasn't the princess, she was simply Moira and so she returned his kiss. Slowly she moved her hands from his shoulders and lightly wrapped her arms around his neck, she had never actually kissed someone properly before but it felt completely right that the first man for her to actually kiss was Soren.

Pulling back a little Moira broke the kiss between them with a small smirk, "You know, you're not meant to kiss your princess" she teased him with a soft laugh. If it had been any other man kissing her Moira was sure she wouldn't have reacted so positively, but now that they had actually kissed Moira knew there would be no way she could just go back to admiring him from afar.

A little part of her couldn't help but be excited by the idea of the two of them trying to sneak kisses from each other when they were back in the palace, Moira knew it would become a game of sorts for her of trying to see how many kisses she could steal from Soren without anyone catching them. As she thought about kissing him more a soft pink blush grew over her cheeks as her mind drifted to thinking about somehow sneaking the man in front of her into her room, Moira had no doubt they would be able to manage it but she pushed that thought aside as it wasn't proper for a knight, or a man in general, to enter a princesses room.

If they did get caught she knew he would not be the only one in trouble, Moira would need to face her parents and that would not be fun for even her.

Once he had pulled from her lips, Soren looked at her face, noting the way she teased with his words, he couldn’t help but laugh a little at them. “Well, you did kiss me first,” he pointed out and slowly loosened his grip on her so that if she wished to detach herself from him, she could.

He thought of all of the possibilities and trouble he could get himself into now that he established this ‘boundary’ with Moira, and he could only think that him stealing more kisses from her would be a common thing.

Sure, he wasn’t too familiar around women, but he knew the basics and how to get them flustered from time to time. And he planned to try to get the princess as flustered as he could.

But a harsh reality laid out for the knight, knowing that the princess was betrothed- it would only be one more month now before her betrothed would come for her, and he didn’t like that. He knew it was inevitable, but he also knew that he still didn’t have to like it.

“What now, princess?” He asked her, hoping she wouldn’t have to leave any time soon, but she could only be in her room ‘resting’ for so long. He knew she hadn’t been out here for too long but also knew that she’d have to return, eventually.

When he pointed out that she did kiss him first Moira gave a small delicate shrug of her shoulders, "I figured a proper kiss would be better payment" she teased with a small giggle. Moira knew that their time together was limited but she was going to do anything she possibly could to make sure that they spent as much time together as possible.

As soon as Soren asked her what now Moira tilted her head to the side a little thoughtfully, she knew she could get away with being out in the forest for maybe another hour before someone noticed she wasn't where she was meant to be, "Well, you have me for maybe another hour before I have to go back" she said thoughtfully as she kept her arms wrapped lightly around his neck. She had taken notice of him loosening his grip on her but she didn't move away from him, Moira wanted to stay as close to him as possible until it was time to go back.

"What do you normally do out here, besides sit under a tree?" Moira questioned as she studied his face carefully as if she was committing every detail to memory, "There is a fresh water river nearby, if you can swim, we can go there" she said with a cheeky grin.

Sure Moira enjoyed sitting in her tree when she was in the forest but she also knew there was a fresh water river that fed into the small creak that was nearby that she from time to time would strip out of her clothes and swim in, normally she always made sure that Soren wasn't in the forest when she swum in it but a part of her wanted to see if she could make the knight she was in the arms of blush.

As she seemed to commit every detail of his face to her memory, Soren heard that they could go to the small creak that was nearby. Of course he could swim, but he didn’t prefer to. He figured she would be trying to get him to blush, but it wouldn’t be that easy. He had heard that she was his for another hour and he hummed lightly.

“Hm, well..I may sound boring to you but that’s all I do out here,” he tells her honestly. Sitting there underneath the tree, dozing off for an hour— it was relaxing to him, making him forget that he was a knight for only a brief couple of hours.

“But, if you wish to swim I’d suggest we’d probably keep our modesty about us,” he reminded her. Even though he’d give anything to see the princess naked, he figured he would remind her so that she wouldn’t regret anything down the line.

“Although I am able to be in your presence now like this…I’d rather not get in trouble for something more scandalous,” he tells her next, but couldn’t deny how he felt. He knew she was absolutely stunning and breathtaking, and was a little jealous that he wouldn’t be able to keep this image all to himself, knowing that her betrothed would get that option eventually.

Moira gave a soft laugh when he said that all that he did while out in the forest was spend time under the tree, she had never met someone like him before that seemed to be like her and enjoyed the peace and quiet the forest brought. As Soren continued to that if she wanted to swim they should probably keep their modesty about them, "Well, in that case, lets go" Moira said with a grin as she took her arms from around his neck and stepped away from him finally.

"And don't worry, I promise not to get you in trouble" she said as she looked over her shoulder at him as she started to walk towards where the creek was, reaching it she took her shoes off before she paused for a moment as she looked down at her dress. Since Moira didn't want Soren to feel as if he was going to get into trouble for seeing her naked she sighed a little before she stepped into the river not caring that her dress was going to get wet, Moira knew that she would be able to get back to her room and change from her wet dress before anyone would notice.

As much as Moira wanted to spend the rest of her life in the palace that she was raised in, she knew that it wasn't going to happen as she had no doubt that her betrothed would whisk her away to where ever he lived and she would never see the palace, her parents or even Soren again. "Did you always want to be a knight?" Moira asked curiously as she had never known what would make someone want to spend their life protecting her family, as she spoke she walked in the water slowly enjoying how cold it felt in places it also warm at the same time.

(Hehe I’m awake again at this time 😅)

Soren only shook his head a little as she left and headed towards the river. He could see that mischievous glance in her eye, but figured she would keep to her word on not getting him in trouble. He followed Moira and when they reached the river bank, he watched as she took her shoes off and lifted her dress.

He quickly turned his head away, averting his gaze but when he heard no shuffling of her garments, and rather water being splashed, he turned his head back and saw as she just went in like she did. His mouth went slightly agape with surprise but he seemingly thought it was funny, watching her dress soak like that.

Laughing slightly at the sight, he moved to roll up his trousers and he removed his own shoes before wading into the water with her. Hearing her question him about wanting to be a knight, he moved and shrugged his shoulders. “Eh, not really, but with this position I could put my skills to use, all the training that I’ve had I could apply it to this as well,” he tried explaining. He knew she knew that he was a former vampire hunter, and with the species being few and far between for now, he seemed a little bit more lax than he should have been.

For when it came to the fiancé of the princess…well, he was currently on his way to the palace and unfortunately held a deep secret that he would reveal to her soon enough.

Moira couldn't help but grin when she saw Soren turn his head away from her as if he was scared that he was going to see something he shouldn't, but she had promised to not get him in trouble. When he looked back at her she raised a brow with a soft laugh seeing his mouth slightly agape as if he was astounded that she would even go into the water fully dressed like she was, watching as he rolled up his trousers, removed his shoes and walked into the water as well she smiled at him gently.

As he explained that he hadn't always wanted to be a knight but he could use his skills and training being a knight, "Understandable" she said with a small nod of her head. When he had first started as a knight Moira had been told by her parents that he had worked as a vampire hunter before and that having him around was going to be very useful, even though her parents were determined to not tell Moira everything she still had heard gossip from the servants that vampire's had tried to break in the palace a few times before and that having Soren as a knight was going to help keep her and her parents safe.

Moving a little more into the water so that it hit her thighs Moira bent over a little with a cheeky grin as she splashed some water towards Soren playfully, "Do you miss hunting vampires?" Moira questioned, she wanted to know as much about this man as she could before it would become impossible for the two of them to spend time together.

Soren had managed to fight stealing more glances at her, given the situation. The way the water rose and splashed around her thighs made him particularly nervous, for some reason. As she bent over, he could see the mischievous grin cross her face and he figured he knew what she would be doing.

The splash towards his way confirmed it and he couldn’t help but laugh a little and shake his head, moving to splash her in return, but only slightly. He didn’t want to get her hair soaking wet.

As her question was asked and he thought of it, he decided to go with this answer; “I…did take pride in my work, but I don’t necessarily miss it,” he didn’t exactly know how to word his response. “It gave me an adrenaline rush, the thrill of the hunt,” he explained further. “Now I’m more focused on protecting you, so-“ he added in that fact and gave her a charming smile, “so I think I’d take a beautiful princess over a soulless monster any day,” and she would note how much he had hated vampires, considering the way his voice fluctuated ever so slightly from the way he spoke about vampires and monsters.

Moira laughed softly when Soren didn't take offence to her splashing him, her laugh became a small squeal when he moved to splash her in return, she hadn't been expecting him to do it but she wasn't mad about it at all. It felt nice seeing how relaxed he seemed to be out here instead of the normal stoic and serious faced he was in the castle.

Listening to him as he explained that he had taken pride in being a vampire hunter but that he didn't necessarily miss it, giving a small nod of her head every now and again as he spoke she raised a brow slightly when he said he would take a beautiful princess over a soulless monster any day. The words of him calling her beautiful replayed in her head and her cheeks burned lightly as she blushed. She had never had someone call her beautiful before and actually mean it, normally people said such things to her to get on her good side. People seemed to think Moira was vain enough that she cared how she looked, but she wasn't, Moira knew if she could get away with it she would prefer to be covered in dirt and mud from spending all of her time in the forest.

Getting an idea Moira looked at Soren with a slightly questioning look on her face, "If I was a vampire, would you hunt me?" she questioned, she wanted to know if her life had been very different if she would have been something that he would have hunted down and killed. "Say, if I hadn't been born as a princess" Moira added curiously, she had once been told by her mother that she had outlandishly terrible ideas when she once asked her parents what they would do if she ever met a nice vampire and fell in love with them.

Her father had promptly shut that down telling her that she was going to marry the man they had chosen for her and that she needed to stop coming up with ludicrous ideas of nice vampires, as far as everyone around her was concerned, vampires were killers and none of them could be nice at all. Sure, she knew they were dangerous, but surely not all of them wanted to kill humans.

Soren was hesitant to respond to that question, the wheels in his head were turning and he didn’t know exactly what to say. Moria would see him pause, and before he had an answer to her- he looked at her face, as if searching something.

He closed his eyes and sighed softly, but it wasn’t directly towards her. “Princess…I know you are probably thinking there might be ‘nice’ vampires out there but..” he rolled up his right shirt’s sleeve and showed a nasty scar, one of many that laid across his body. “Once, and only once I spared a vampire’s life. It was a mother with her small child. She begged me for mercy and somehow I couldn’t..bring myself to kill them,” he told her, shaking his head.

“But it caused me to drop my guard, and the moment I turned she immediately went to attack me, drinking more of my blood and nearly killing me instead,” his voice was low, as if the memory wasn’t pleasant.

“All vampires have that urge to kill, and I haven’t met one who hasn’t.” He looked at her now, “and I would like to think you being a vampire will never be— so, please refrain from asking me such a question, princess..” his eyes and voice were pleading. He couldn’t help it. Knowing that if she had been a vampire he would have to kill her, but if he hadn’t known her prior— he wouldn’t feel this way, feel so…conflicted.
